Dishwasher Sounds like Rain Hitting a Window. What Should I Do?

Imagine this. Your dishwasher is a few months old. One day, when you run it, you hear a spraying noise.

The dishwasher sounds like rain hitting a window. You are worried. You wonder what could be wrong.

Are you in such a situation? This could be brought about by a variety of reasons such as:

Dishwasher Making Noise When Water Circulates?

Poor insulation

Sometimes you might be worried that your new appliance is faulty while all it lacks is enough insulation so you can hear all the noises going on inside.

The insulation is a sleeve that covers the top, back, and sides of the unit and helps to quiet it.

Most homeowners or inexperienced contractors mistakenly remove the insulation material during installation, allowing most of the noise to get out, and you can hear it.

To fix this, you should ask an experienced appliance repair professional to inspect your unit and determine whether the insulation material is in place. If not, install it.

Outlets not sealing properly

All the outlets in the dishwasher are properly sealed to ensure no water is leaking. If your appliance wasn’t properly put together or it’s too cheap, there are chances that the outlets may not be sealing correctly and letting the water out.

If you are a dab hand at DIY projects, you can check if the seals are in place, but let a professional take a look if you don’t trust your skills.

The dishwasher spray arm is leaking.

If you are experiencing the rain sounds and see leaks around under the door, you most likely have a split in your spray arm.

When you have a split in the lower spray arm, the spray arm will rotate too fast, shoot water directly at items it shouldn’t, including the door vents and edges, creating the rain sounds.

To get to the bottom of this, you need to inspect the dishwasher for possible signs of cracks. To do this, you need to open the dishwasher door and remove the lower dish rack.

You should then rotate the lower spray arm and check the seams for signs of cracks and blocked holes.

The lower spray arm rotates on the spray arm bearing, and you can easily remove it for an even closer inspection by eliminating the center spray nozzle or retainer nut.

During the inspection, pay close attention to the seams where the top and bottom join together and look for any signs of separation or cracks.

If the spray arm has cracked, replace it.

Other reasons your dishwasher will sound like rain

Improperly installed spray head. Some dishwashers will require the upper spray head to link up with the water supply at the back of the tub. Confirm if this is the case when you push the top rack in place.
